Time and tide.................. |

Does anybody know for certain the furthest upstream that the incoming tide affects the river ? I guess Spring tides will have a bigger effect than normal
tides, but where would an average high tide "reach" ? Cheers, Kev.

I think the big springs get up as far as Tewkesbury Wier.

Bruce is right, Tewkesbury weir is the last tidal spot, except during floods when it will come over.

A normal tide will go up to tewkesbury, but a big springer will reach up as far as diglis and the lower teme. When it does you get extra flow on the ebb.

Thanks for that lads.
So, another question. What state of the tide is it best to fish in for fish activity, or dosen't it really influence them that much ? Are there any states of the tide where fishing is hard, or impossible due to not being able to hold bottom ? Ta.

As its dropping - I've not fished for Barbs during a tide yet, but certainly for other species it made a real difference. The tide at Tewkesbury often
comes up very fast, especially if its a high bore.

Notes that some good fish came off HH when there was a big springer.
One of the first nearly caught rob out. He was down the bottom doing an afternoon/evening session and dozed off in his chair. He woke up all of a sudden, with the water around his ankles and his bait bucket floating away up-stream........ It took him a while to work out wtf was going on. Steve |

Tides - Oh yes ... | #7 | ||

Kev (and others) Check out the above link - unfortunately no really big spring tides in this calendar year. Two years ago kev ci and I had a good fish each from a certain place on one of the biggest spring tides >10m. Haven't go enough data to determine best time to fish but I certainly try to get out when a big tide is on its way - even better with a flood on as well. By the way - frequently see the tide coming up river above Tewkesbury
Cheers

Thanks lads for the info. As luck would have it, I bumped into Mr Tidal Severn Pioneer himself today, while at Finchy's shop. What a smashing bloke, and
full of advice and encouragement.
Cheers for that Mister.

I've regularly seen the tides having an effect well above Tewkesbury weir....
....waves going in the wrong direction up at Severn Stoke for instance ![]() ![]()
